Picking The Music!


Today, my group and I worked on picking music for our short film. We wanted a song that can help emphasize what the characters are going through. This will allow the audience to connect emotionally to the short film on a deeper level. Brianna suggested that we should use one of Khalid's songs because many of his songs are very popular for being "relatable" to his target audience. I had suggested a few songs by Frank Ocean because his songs give a very emotional impact as well. It took time to think about what we were going to choose. However, we thought it may be better to pick Khalid due to my group and I having a greater liking for one of his songs. After we decided, we decided to message him on Instagram so that we can ask for his approval to use his music. This was for copyright reasons. Without his consent, we won't be able to use his  music. Brianna and I wrote the message and Macaria checked over it to make sure it was written correctly. Alejandro was not present when we messaged Khalid, but we had let him know later in the day. Brianna, Macaria, and I chose to each send the message we had prepared individually. This was to increase the chances of Khalid viewing our message. We had sent this message in advanced to guarantee that we will get a response back in time to include the music. If we do not get a response back, my group and I will have to make a backup plan so we can have music over this short film. We think the music will be a major fact in helping viewers understand our message and allow them to connect. My group will be monitoring to see if Khalid answers. We will be very greatful if he answers and allows us to use his song "Coaster." Of course we are not 100% sure that Khalid will answer. However, we are hopeful of it.

Some of the fonts we were planning on using in our film include Alta California , IM FELL Double Pica SC, and Juniper Std. For Alta California, we would use it when we show our names. For example, when we write “Edited by: Hannah and Mila” it would be used on “Hannah and Mila.” It is a sticker-like decorative font that has a rugged look to it. It relates to the film we are creating because it is a story about a girl who has a rugged life and mentality. Also, the font has a youthful feeling attached to it which correlates to how the film is made about teenagers. It also has a scary and mysterious feeling to it, which matches the overall tone of the film. It relates to our thriller genre and emphasizes the mood that we are trying to implement.  For IM FELL Double Pica SC, we would use it for the title descriptions. Music Changes

Today, we spent time picking new music. We messaged Khalid a while ago and he still hasn't seen ut. Since Khalid hasn’t answered our messages, so we didn’t to have any other artist options. My group and I didn’t think Frank Ocean would respond back or even on time. Because of that, we didn't attempt to message him. We started looking for some royalty free music. However, none of the options were good enough for our film in our opinion. We kept finding other ways that we can use so that the music would be good. Since we think music is one of the most important parts of the film. We found some potential ideas. We thought of the idea of remixing a song, so that it wouldn’t be copyrighted. We started editing the song we originally had which was "Coaster." We editing the speed and the sounds in the background to see if we can still use it.
