Genre Research:(Drama)



We decided to research the genre of drama. There are many common camera angles found in comedy movies. These include: 

  • -eye level

  • -low angle

  • -high angle

  • -establishing shot

There are also commonly found camera movements in this genre that include: 

  • -tracking shot

  • -pan

  • -zoom

 Finally, some of the shots that are frequently used include: 

  • -close-up

  • -extreme close-up 

  • -medium shot 

  • -two-shot

  • -wide shot

  • -point-of-view shot 

Some of the common mis-en-scene elements found in drama movies include: 

  • costumes:  normal day clothing, emotion based costumes

  • acting: talkative, intriguing(filled with drama), problematic

  • makeup: emotion based(happy emotions, brighter makeup. sad emotions, darker makeup) and messy

  • props: valuables(personal items), momentos, anything a character can use or pickup

  • set: can appear during the day and/or night, locations have significance or special relation to main character

Some of the frequently used editing techniques in dramas include: 

  • -cutaways 

  • -eye-line matches 

  • -jump cuts 

Finally, some of the commonly used sound elements used in drama films include: 

  • -diegetic sounds 

  • -non-diegetic sounds 

  • -dialogues 

  • -voiceovers

Comparing Lee Jetee, the Short, and 12 Monkeys, the Full Length Movie

Chris Marker's 1962 short film "La Jetée" was modified by Terry Gilliam in 1995 to become the feature-length blockbuster "12 Monkeys." Instead of calling his own dystopian narrative a movie, Marker called it a photo book. The film consists of a number of still photos with voiceovers. It has a detached narrator who seems unconcerned with the current situation, which lends a more remote air to a tale about nostalgia for the past . Similar to La Jetée, 12 Monkeys was created by fans of the film and is a purposeful, reverent reworking of Marker's original plot, themes, and concepts. La Jetée is a fascinating low-fi sci-fi time-travel story told in these vignettes, in which a Parisian World War 3 survivor is transported back in time to save mankind before the earth was radioactively destroyed.      Hello, my name is Nicole Miller. I am 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. I have learned a lot since I started taking the class last semester. I am very excited to start my final task and be able to better myself in filming and gain other skills within the process. I currently spend time a lot of time with my mom and my dog, Hercules. When I am not with them, I am either at school or at dance. I dedicate a lot of my time to competitive dance because that is my passion.
